Photos That Feel Like You

I did this shoot sometime last year I believe, and it is still one of my favorite sessions ever. I met Rona & Zac working at The Cheesecake Factory, which feels like a lifetime ago. They are probably the most adorable couple on earth so when Rona asked me to do her engagement/ wedding photos i was honored to say the least (wedding photos coming in September, stay tuned). I always encourage my clients to pull inspiration from their everyday lives to give their session a more authentic and true-to-self feel. That is my favorite type of work to do. Of course i can suggest a pretty location and you and your partner can dress up fancy and we can go take beautiful photos.. and i love shoots like that too! But there is just something special about capturing couples in their natural element doing things that they love.

We booked a studio (shout-out Sixth City in Cleveland, Ohio) and they brought some of their favorite things from home to help the shoot feel more like them. I love doing in home sessions! And your house doesn’t need to look like it could be featured on HGTV for us to make magic there. But if you’re going for a specific vibe, renting a studio space or Air BNB is always a good option too. Anywho.. maybe you and your lover like to lounge around and read Manga/Comics, or play on your Nintendo Switches. (They also brought their Dungeons & Dragons set up, you can see some of those photos on my instagram if you’re curious.) Maybe theres a coffee shop or date night spot that you frequent. Maybe theres a place around town that is special to you. Maybe getting dressed up is your thing. Maybe your favorite thing to do is lay around the house in your underwear together, or cook breakfast together on a Sunday morning. Im here for all of it. My biggest piece of advice for couples sessions is don’t overthink it too much, do something that feels like you.. at least for a portion of your session.

oh.. and wear neutral colors 😉
